THE “PURGE” POLICY IMPLEMENTED BY SOVIET AUTHORITIES IN THE HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM OF THE UZBEK SSR

The article analyzes the policy of "cleansings" carried out by the Soviet authorities in the higher education system of the Uzbek SSR in the 1920s–1930s, as well as its results and consequences. The paper examines the closure of the Turkestan People’s University in 1918 and the "cleansings" of faculty and students in 1918–1920, the supervisory measures of the GPU and the Central Asian Bureau, trials and repressions in science and education, examples of personnel "proletarianization" through the influence of the Party and Komsomol in the 1920s–1930s, and related special decrees.
