WORLD PROSE TRADITIONS AND THE INTERPRETATION OF THE FEMALE IMAGE IN UZBEK NOVELS: BASED ON THE WORKS OF ABDULLA QODIRIY AND JURJI ZAYDAN

This article presents a comparative literary analysis of female images in Abdullah Qodiriy’s novel“Mehrobdan chayon” (The Scorpion from the Altar) and Jurji Zaydan’s novel “The Sister of Harun al-Rashid”. The main focus is on the typology of female characters (Ra’no, Abbasa, as well as secondaryfemale figures), their rebellion against the ruler’s will, their courage in the pursuit of love, and their tragicfate. The study employs historical-comparative, typological, and gender analysis methods. Drawing on thegender theories of Simone de Beauvoir and Judith Butler, the article examines the extent to which thesefemale characters subvert traditional gender roles. The results show that both writers, synthesizing Eastern and Western literary traditions, created original female images that reflect their national mentalities.Qodiriy adopted from Zaydan such techniques as endowing female characters with poetic abilities andsetting them against the ruler’s will, but reinterpreted them within the Uzbek national context and in a spiritof social criticism.
