NATIONAL-CULTURAL INTERPRETATION OF THE CONCEPT OF “HAPPINESS” IN PAREMIOLOGICAL UNITS

This article presents a comparative linguocognitive analysis of the national-cultural interpretation of the concept of “baxt / happiness” in Uzbek and English paremiological units. The aim of the study is to identify the semantic, axiological, and pragmatic features of this concept within the system of proverbs and sayings, as well as to reveal its intrinsic connection with national mentality and linguoculture. The object of the research consists of paremiological units in Uzbek and English that express the concept of “baxt / happiness,” while the subject focuses on their connotative-semantic characteristics, discursive functions, and linguocultural interpretations. The study employs comparative-analytical, semantic field, linguocognitive, and pragmalinguistic methods. The findings demonstrate that in Uzbek paremiology, the concept of “baxt” is predominantly interpreted in relation to fate, destiny, and social harmony, whereas in English paremiology, the concept of “happiness” is closely associated with individual success, personal freedom, and subjective satisfaction. At the same time, in both linguistic systems, this concept carries a positive axiological value and performs a didactic and educational function.
