SEMIOSIS PRESUPPOSITION IN FOLKLORE DISCOURSE

Semiosis is the process of creating and working with signs–a set of abstract or material objects used to denote, represent or stand in for other objects. Semiosis is a subject studied within the specialised science of signs and sign systems–semiotics. Presupposition can be understood as a component of a text’s content arising from relative knowledge, for which sufficient comprehension of the text is not required; it is usually expressed verbally. Such knowledge is called surface (background) knowledge. Presupposition may generally arise when reading another text or it may simply arise in the author’s mind without being expressed in the text at all.
