CONNOTATION AS THE MAIN OBJECT OF STUDY IN PRAGMATICS

This article investigates the phenomenon of connotation as a primary subject of pragmatic study. The paper provides a comparative analysis of various connotation classifications. It highlights the distinction between inherent and adherent types of connotation, their manifestation in speech context, as well as the emotive, volitive, appellative, and aesthetic functions of connotation. The pragmatic functions of evaluative and expressive-evaluative words are analyzed through English language examples.
