MODELLING A RUSSIAN-ENGLISH CONTRASTIVE EXPLANATORY TRANSLATION CORPUS DICTIONARY

This study substantiates a new integrated type of bilingual dictionary in which the semic interpretation of a Russian lexeme is combined with an indication of interlingual correspondences and illustrative excerpts drawn from parallel corpora. Working with Russian-English contrastive pairs taken from the studies of I.A.Sternin and the Voronezh school, the paper describes linear and vector correspondences, lexical lacunae and nationally specific semes. The resources of the Russian National Corpus, OpenSubtitles, ParaCrawl, the British National Corpus and the Corpus of Contemporary American English are involved. 4 zones of a dictionary entry are proposed (semic, translation, corpus-illustrative and contrastive-commentary). Quantitative proportions of interlingual correspondences are presented for a sample of 200 Russian everyday lexemes.
