INTEGRATING THE IDEAS OF FOLK PEDAGOGY INTO MODERN EDUCATIONAL APPROACHES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONAL CHARACTER TRAITS

This article examines the pedagogical significance of using the ideas of folk pedagogy in the formation and development of national character traits. Folk pedagogy is interpreted as an important educational source formed on the basis of people’s life experience, moral views, educational values, and social relations. The article analyzes the role of oral folk art, customs, traditions, proverbs, sayings, legends, and national values in developing such national character traits as patriotism, diligence, humanism, respect for elders, care for younger generations, tolerance, honesty, and responsibility. The possibilities of integrating the ideas of folk pedagogy with competency-based, learner-centered, axiological, integrative, and innovative educational approaches are also considered. The study substantiates that ensuring the harmony of national and universal values in the modern educational process is an important factor in students’ spiritual and moral development, social activity, and national self-awareness.
