TRADITION AND MASTERY IN NARRATIVES (ON THE EXAMPLE OF STORIES IN THE WORK “ROHATI DIL”)

This article analyzes the story “Hikoyatu-l-Khomis: The Tale of Three Brothers Who Found Treasure on a Journey and Perished Due to the Temptations of the Self” from Rohati Dil by the prominent representative of Uzbek classical literature, Khojanazar Huvaydo, from the perspectives of literary tradition and artistic mastery. The study explores the Qur’anic and Hadith-based roots of the narrative, its plot parallels with Kalila and Dimna, and Huvaydo’s distinctive artistic approach. The author demonstrates how Huvaydo enriched a traditional narrative with Islamic and Sufi ideas, emphasizing themes of greed, the lower self (nafs), and spiritual perfection. The findings reveal that Huvaydo elevated Uzbek religious-educational storytelling to a new artistic level through his creative reinterpretation of inherited literary traditions.
