THE ARTISTIC INTERPRETATION OF KNOWLEDGE AND MYSTICAL WISDOM IN NIZAMI GANJAVI’S ISKANDARNAMA (IQBALNAMA)

This article examines the issues of knowledge, mystical wisdom (irfan), and spiritual perfection presented in Nizami Ganjavi’s Iskandarnama, particularly in its Iqbalnama section, which forms part of the Khamsa (Five Treasures). The study explores the artistic interpretation of Alexander as both a sage and a prophet and highlights the central role of knowledge in human life through a series of instructive narratives. Using the tales of The Chinese Maiden and Archimedes and Maria the Copt, the article reveals the conflicts between knowledge and desire, as well as knowledge and beauty. The findings demonstrate that Nizami Ganjavi glorifies knowledge and mystical wisdom as the foundations of human perfection and artistically conveys key ideas of Eastern intellectual and spiritual thought.
