CONTEXTUAL EXPRESSION OF THE PHENOMENON OF FEAR

This article is devoted to the study of the phenomenon of fear in E.T.A. Hoffmann’s work “Die Elixiere des Teufels” based on communicative-pragmatic and stylistic analysis. The text is examined within the framework of linguistic pragmatics; specific patterns of explicit and implicit expression of the phenomenon of fear are identified, and the rules related to its semantic, syntactic, and pragmatic mechanisms are clarified. Fear can be conveyed to the reader not only as an internal feeling but also through external circumstances associated with events and the surrounding environment. The contextual expression of fear is formed precisely through space, time, and environment.
