ASSOCIATIVE VERBAL NETWORK AND OVERCOMING CROSS LINGUISTIC INTERFERENCE IN TEACHING RUSSIAN AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

The article examines the relationship between the structure of a bilingual’s associative-verbal network and the nature of cross-linguistic interference among native Uzbek speakers learning Russian. Drawing on a free association experiment and an analysis of typical errors, it shows how mismatches in grammatical categories (gender, aspect, prepositional government) and phonetic systems generate persistent deviations in Russian speech. Techniques are proposed for relying on associative norms when shaping the foreign learner’s mental lexicon.
