THE PATRONAGE ACTIVITIES OF THE MEDICI FAMILY DURING THE RENAISSANCE

The Medici family was a dynasty of Florentine bankers that played a significant role in thedevelopment of Renaissance culture. This article examines the influence of the Medici family on thedevelopment of Florence, as well as the process through which they accumulated economic power throughbanking activities and transformed financial resources into instruments of political and cultural influence.The study analyzes the activities of the early representatives of the dynasty, Giovanni di Bicci and Cosimode’ Medici, who laid the foundations for the family’s political rise. Particular attention is paid to thepatronage policy of Lorenzo de’ Medici, during whose rule the cultural influence of the dynasty reachedits peak.
