A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE SEMANTIC-THEMATIC FOUNDATIONS OF ENGLISH AND UZBEK FILMONYMS

This article presents a comparative analysis of the semantic-thematic foundations of English and Uzbek filmonyms. The research material consists of 30 English and 30 Uzbek film titles. The filmonyms are classified according to their main semantic center into character/personage-based, place/space-based, time-based, and mixed models. The article interprets film titles not merely as naming units of cinematic works, but as linguistic phenomena that reflect the content, genre, narrative setting, and audience-oriented communicative impact of a film. The analysis reveals that, in English filmonyms, place and time components more often function as concise semantic signals, whereas Uzbek filmonyms more strongly foreground character imagery, social environment, and national-cultural representations.
