COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE CASE CATEGORY IN RUSSIAN AND KARAKALPAK

The article presents a comparative analysis of the case category in Russian and Karakalpak – typologically different structured languages belonging respectively to the Indo-European (Slavic) and Turkic (Kipchak-Nogai) families. The quantitative composition of case systems, semantic functions of each case, means of their expression, as well as functional equivalents between case forms of the two languages are considered. Special attention is paid to phenomena that have no direct correspondences: the category of gender as a case-forming factor in the Russian language, the absence of prepositions in Karakalpak, postpositions (tirkeўishler), as well as the category of possession (tartym), interacting with the case paradigm in the Karakalpak language.
