THE FALL OF THE BYZANTINE EMPIRE IN CHRISTIAN AND MUSLIM WRITTEN TRADITIONS: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS

This article analyzes the history of the fall of the Byzantine Empire based on sources. It highlights the causes of the state's weakening and the history of the siege of Constantinople. Contrasting facts of the events are analyzed. In Christian sources, the conquest of Constantinople is perceived as the tragic end of the Byzantine Empire; in the Muslim world, it signifies the beginning of the history and victory of the Ottoman Empire. The interpretation of these events is largely determined by cultural and religious contexts.
