THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS OF REPRESENTING THE HUMAN IMAGE IN LITERARY TEXTS

This article investigates the theoretical foundations of representing human appearance in literary texts from the perspectives of modern linguistic stylistics and literary text linguistics. It examines the linguistic nature of human appearance, focusing on its nominative, descriptive, and expressive representations as well as its realization through tropes and stylistic devices. The study comparatively reviews Uzbek, Russian, and English scholarly approaches to the linguistic representation of human appearance. Particular attention is paid to portrait description, evaluative nomination, metaphor, simile, epithet, metonymy, and other stylistic devices that contribute to literary characterization. Furthermore, the paper discusses the role of parallel corpora in providing objective evidence for analysing stylistic devices and identifying stylistic equivalence in literary translation. The findings contribute to theoretical and methodological developments in literary stylistics, corpus linguistics, and translation studies.
