HIGH-FREQUENCY TROPES AS A MEANS OF REPRESENTING NEGATIVE EMOTIONS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

The article examines high-frequency stylistic tropes used to represent negative emotions in contemporary English. The study is based on the GloWbE corpus, whose data were analyzed using corpus-based contextual analysis to identify expressive means representing the semantic fields of anger, grief, fear, and envy. The paper focuses on the most productive tropes metaphor, hyperbole, and epithet and analyzes their structural, semantic, functional, and linguocultural characteristics.
