Abstract
In linguistics, neutralization is defined as the elimination or reduction of the functional relevance of distinctive features of linguistic units in particular contexts. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of neutralization on syntactic level. The study is based on illustrative data from English and Russian and is supplemented by typological evidence from other languages.
