THE DYNAMICS OF THE USE OF DIMINUTIVE SUFFIXES IN THE ENGLISH, RUSSIAN, AND UZBEK LANGUAGES

This article examines the dynamics of diminutive-affectionate suffix usage in English, Russian, and Uzbek through a comparative corpus-based approach. The study aims to identify shifts in the formal inventory, semantic-pragmatic functions, and stylistic distribution of diminutive devices across the three languages. Methodologically, the research relies on balanced written and spoken subcorpora with genre stratification, morphemic annotation, collocational and contextual analysis, and the computation of frequency measures and functional indices. The main novelty lies in proposing a cross-linguistically comparable “affixal core vs. periphery” model that accommodates typologically different morphological systems, and in demonstrating micro-trends toward stronger affective evaluation in contemporary mass communication supported by quantitative evidence. The findings have applied relevance for translation choices, lexicographic representation of evaluative morphology, and pragmatics-oriented language instruction.
