THE EVOLUTION OF METHODOLOGICAL APPROACHES TO DEVELOPING LINGUISTIC COMPETENCE IN TEACHING RUSSIAN AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

This article examines the evolution of the principal methodological approaches to teaching Russian as a foreign language in the context of developing linguistic competence. A historical and theoretical analysis of the grammar-translation, audiolingual, audiovisual, communicative, and competency-based approaches is conducted, highlighting their distinctive features, advantages, and limitations. Particular attention is paid to the development of the concept of linguistic competence as a system-forming component of communicative competence.
