Abstract

This article examines the cognitive-pragmatic foundations for developing critical thinking among English language teachers. Drawing on the theoretical foundations of cognitive linguistics, pragmatics, and educational psychology, the study analyzes how metacognitive awareness and pragmatic competence jointly contribute to the development of critical thinking. Three evidence-based pedagogical methods — Socratic questioning, reflective journaling, and pragmatic awareness training — are considered as components of an integrated approach to teacher education.
