This article analyzes the semantic, functional, and terminological features of the lexical units “enlik,” “eng,” and “ellik” used in the vocabulary of skullcap making in the Fergana Valley. Using a comparative approach, the study examines their meanings in the general language and the specialized functions they have acquired in the professional discourse of artisans. In particular, the lexeme “enlik” is examined as a professional unit of measurement associated with the concepts of width and size; “eng” is shown to require contextual analysis because of its polysemy and homonymy; and “ellik” is described as a professional term denoting the lower circular part of the skullcap structure that fits around the head. The transition of these lexemes from general vocabulary into professional terminology is also evaluated from the perspectives of semantic specialization and terminologization. In addition, the article discusses the regional, areal, and linguocultural features of skullcap-making vocabulary and substantiates the close relationship of these units with traditional craftsmanship, folk measurement practices, and systems of naming objects.
