This article analyzes the interpretation of the concepts of rationalism and sensualism in Abu Hamid al-Ghazali’s theory of knowledge. In the history of Islamic thought, Abu Hamid al-Ghazali is known not only as a theologian and jurist but also as a philosopher, logician, and theorist of Sufism. His intellectual legacy encompasses a wide range of fields, including philosophy, theology, ethics, and epistemology. The article examines the role of rational and sensory cognition in al-Ghazali’s epistemology, their interrelationship, and their significance in the process of acquiring knowledge. It demonstrates that while al-Ghazali recognized the important role of reason in cognition, he sought to integrate it with other forms of knowledge, including sensory experience and spiritual perception.
