Abstract

This article analyzes the repressive socio-economic policies implemented by the Soviet authorities in the Samarkand region during the 1920s and 1930s and their consequences. It examines land and water reforms, dekulakization, the confiscation of private property, the persecution of property owners and religious figures as “class enemies,” as well as arrests and forced exile. Based on historical evidence from the Samarkand region, the article also explores the impact of these policies on the population’s standard of living, the traditional economic system, and the social structure of society.
