This article analyzes the stages of historiographical research on the administrative-territorial division and governance system of the Fergana Region between 1876 and 1917. Sources and scholarly-administrative publications from the Russian Empire period, Soviet historiography, studies conducted during the independence period, and contemporary foreign literature are examined using a historical-comparative approach. Methodological differences in the interpretation of the administrative hierarchy of region–uyezd–volost–village, the institution of the military governor, local administrative structures, and territorial transformations are identified. As a result, the historiography of the issue is periodized into the Russian Imperial, Soviet, and independence periods, while the continuing need for a comprehensive comparative study of the subject is demonstrated.
