Abstract

This article analyzes the linguistic and lexicographic foundations for designing an electronic dictionary of linguistic terms, drawing on advances in computational lexicography, terminography, and corpus linguistics. It demonstrates that terminological variation, the parallel use of international and national terms, the dependence of terminology on particular schools of linguistic thought, and homonymy between linguistic terms and words in general usage are key factors determining the structure of an electronic dictionary.
