Abstract

This article analyzes the socio-legal transformation of the family institution in the Khiva Khanate in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, examining marriage, mahr (Islamic bridal dower), qalyn (bride price), divorce, marital relations, women's property rights, and kinship ties. The study draws on the 2010 edition of Munis and Agahi's Firdavs ul-Iqbol, prepared by N. Jumakhoja, S. Rozimboyev, and A. Ahmedov and published by O‘qituvchi Publishing House, as well as documents from qadi courts and contemporary scholarly research. The findings reveal that the family institution constituted a complex system regulating not only marital and kinship relations but also property, legal, and social relations.
