Abstract

Based on archival documents and periodical publications, this article analyzes four irrigation projects constructed in the Surkhan-Sherabad Oasis during the 1950s–1970s — the Zang Canal, the South Surkhan Reservoir, and the Sherabad and Amu-Zang pumping canals — as a unified engineering model oriented toward cotton cultivation. The study identifies discrepancies between information presented in the Soviet press and archival records.
