Abstract

The article examines genus–species relationships in the phraseology of the Uzbek and Russian languages. Based on five phraseosemantic groups, it demonstrates that the hyperonym is generally represented by a neutral lexeme. When the definition of a phraseological unit introduces an additional semantic feature of manner, intensity, evaluation, or phase, the unit functions as a hyponym; if the difference is purely stylistic, it remains a synonym. Purely phraseological hyponymy constitutes a second, relatively rare level.
