N2  - This article examines the lexical-semantic features of idioms in English and Uzbek, as well as their functional role in speech communication. Idioms are regarded as significant phraseological units that reflect national and cultural thinking, figurative worldview, communicative experience, and value-based perceptions of language speakers. The study focuses on the semantic structure of idioms, mechanisms of figurative meaning formation, degree of imagery, equivalence relations, and contextual usage. Special attention is also paid to the emotional-expressive, evaluative, cultural-identificational, and pragmatic functions of idioms in literary texts, oral speech, journalistic style, and everyday communication. Through a comparative analysis, the article identifies both common and distinctive features of English and Uzbek idioms. The findings emphasize the importance of understanding and using idioms appropriately in translation studies, language teaching, and intercultural communication.
