%X This article examines the reception of medieval heroic epic, chivalric, and Gothic romance traditions in Thomas Harris's Hannibal Lecter tetralogy. It explores how archaic plot models, archetypal images, and motifs dating back to medieval literature are reimagined in contemporary popular literature. Particular attention is paid to the image of Hannibal Lecter as a unique "dark knight" figure, combining the traits of an epic hero, an antihero, and a monster. The motifs of trial, service, inheritance, blood feud, ritualized violence, and chronotopic features associated with the imagery of the castle, dungeon, and infernal space are analyzed. It is shown that Harris's tetralogy not only utilizes elements of the psychological thriller but also actualizes the deep structures of medieval epic and romance, creating a modern literary myth of the monstrous hero.
