abstract: This article analyzes the artistic features of English short story writing from the perspective of character, conflict, and composition. The study examines the works of major nineteenth- and twentieth-century English-language writers such as James Fenimore Cooper, Charles Dickens, and O. Henry, revealing the artistic potential of the short story genre. It also presents a comparative analysis of English and Uzbek storytelling traditions, identifying similarities and differences in character construction, conflict development, and compositional structure.
