The universality of the modality category is examined based on the theoretical frameworks of foreign scholars (Von Wright, Palmer, Lyons) and local linguistic research (Jo'rayeva, Qilichev). Structural similarities and differences in the grammatical systems of English and Uzbek, as well as equivalence challenges in the translation process, are analysed through literary examples drawn from Carroll, Fitzgerald, Shakespeare, and G'afur G'ulom.
