abstract: The article examines the socio-psychological essence of the distant family phenomenon and analyzes migration, economic, communicative and emotional factors influencing its formation. A distant family is interpreted as a specific form of family functioning determined by global migration, territorial mobility of the labour market, military service, education, business trips and professional activity. Based on a review of national and foreign studies, the article discusses the characteristics of interpersonal relations, marital interaction, parental functions, children’s psychological development, family values, meaning-in-life orientations and marital attitudes in distant families. Particular attention is paid to the influence of distant family relations on children’s mental health, social adaptation and personality development from the perspective of risk and protective factors.
