N2  - The article examines the linguistic status of the concept of a ?stable expression?, its internal types, and the criteria for its selection in the formation of an Uzbek?English parallel corpus. Existing studies, particularly those devoted to the parallel corpus of Uzbek and English phrasemes, mainly focus on phrasemes. However, the units that cause difficulties in the translation process are not limited to phrasemes alone: proverbs, sayings, periphrases, collocations, terminological combinations, speech etiquette formulas, and discourse clichés also have particular scholarly significance in determining equivalence between the two languages. Therefore, the article proposes such criteria for including stable expressions in a parallel corpus as semantic integrity, structural stability, reproducibility, translational equivalence, cultural markedness, and stylistic-pragmatic function. The findings of the study contribute to establishing the initial theoretical foundations for selecting stable expressions for an Uzbek?English parallel corpus.
