abstract: This article examines the stages of the development of the concept of conversion in linguistic theory and provides a comparative analysis of its interpretation in Western, Russian, and Uzbek linguistics. The study explores the theoretical and methodological relationship between conversion, word formation, homonymy, and syntactic transposition. Particular attention is paid to the manifestations of conversion in the Uzbek language, including the processes of substantivization, adjectivization, and adverbialization. The findings demonstrate that the agglutinative typology of the Uzbek language determines specific patterns of conversion that differ from those found in Indo-European languages. The article also discusses the common and distinctive features of conversion and transposition and seeks to clarify the terminological boundaries between these concepts. The results contribute to the advancement of word-formation theory and the improvement of linguistic terminology in Uzbek linguistics.
