abstract: This article discusses the fact that the rapid development of electronic media and the Internet has a strong information impact on the life of society, especially on students and young people, that in the process of following the flow of news on social networks, students become active participants in the global information space and experience the influence of various media and cultural environments, and that this situation further strengthens the need to develop media competence in the process of teaching English, since English is considered the main means of communication in the global media space.
