The study focuses on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, examining its artistic interpretation of wealth, social status, personal aspirations, love, and spiritual emptiness. It also explores how material prosperity is represented in contemporary Uzbek prose in relation to morality, conscience, family responsibility, honesty, and national values. The article argues that while American literature generally portrays wealth as a symbol of individual success and social mobility, Uzbek novels interpret it as a moral challenge, an ethical choice, and a measure of human integrity. The comparative analysis demonstrates that in both literary traditions material wealth is not depicted as a guarantee of absolute happiness but rather as an important artistic and philosophical category revealing an individual's inner world, relationship with society, and moral character.2026-01-01Article
