Paremiological units are an important linguistic phenomenon that reflects the life experience, cultural values and worldview of the people formed over the centuries. In the study, we studied the structure, semantic features and communicative functions of proverbs and sayings involving animal and plant names. We have shown that zoonyms and phytonyms appear in paremials not only as nominative units, but also as a means of expressing symbolic and metaphorical meanings.
