Particular attention is paid to the transition from approaches shaped by Soviet ideology to a new concept based on the history of national statehood, historical memory, national values, and patriotism. The article also explores the three stages of the development of history textbooks, the impact of educational legal and regulatory documents on textbook content, and the introduction of the competency-based approach in new-generation textbooks. Furthermore, it reveals the role of history textbooks in developing students' historical thinking, critical thinking, and independent analytical skills. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the modernization of history education and the improvement of history textbooks in Uzbekistan during the years of independence.
