The study examines the main directions in the development of history textbooks and highlights the changes that have occurred in their content and methodology. Particular attention is paid to the transition from approaches shaped by Soviet ideology to a new concept based on the history of national statehood, historical memory, national values, and patriotism. The article also explores the three stages of the development of history textbooks, the impact of educational legal and regulatory documents on textbook content, and the introduction of the competency-based approach in new-generation textbooks. Furthermore, it reveals the role of history textbooks in developing students' historical thinking, critical thinking, and independent analytical skills.
