abstract: The article deals with proper names in Tahir Malik's novel Shaytanat and the ways they are rendered into Russian. The study is based on an Uzbek Russian parallel corpus compiled from the original text and its 2016 translation. It examines the characters' anthroponyms, toponyms and nicknames, their semantics and etymology according to the dictionary by E. A. Begmatov. The predominance of transcription in rendering personal names and the loss of the inner form of meaningful names are established.
