abstract: This article studies the functional-semantic features of the overlap phenomenon of speech meaning and communicative functions in English and Uzbek from a comparative and comparative perspective. The study is aimed at identifying the mechanisms of formation of the overlap phenomenon within the functional-semantic field, the core and peripheral components, and its relationship with communicative tasks. It is scientifically substantiated that the typological differences of the English and Uzbek languages have different effects on the semantic realization of overlap. As a result of the study, a functional-semantic model of the overlap phenomenon was developed and an author's concept called the Functional-Semantic Overlap Model (FSOM) is proposed. The model reflects the systematic relationship between the semantic components of overlap, its functional load, and its communicative result. The results of the research are of theoretical and practical importance for the areas of comparative and comparative linguistics, functional grammar, semantics and pragmatics.
