title: PRAGMALINGUISTIC ANALYSIS OF CONFLICT COMMUNICATION: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF ENGLISH AND UZBEK

abstract: This article presents a comparative-typological analysis of the pragmalinguistic features of conflict communication in English and Uzbek. The primary aim of the study is to identify the functional and pragmatic characteristics of pragmalinguistic units, communicative strategies, pragmatic markers, and linguocultural factors employed in conflict discourse. An empirical corpus consisting of 300 conflict communicative situations in English and 300 in Uzbek was compiled for the study. The analysis examines the functions of evaluative units, discourse markers, modal devices, presupposition, implicature, deictic units, and other pragmatic means in conflict discourse. The empirical findings demonstrate that, alongside certain similarities, there are significant linguocultural differences in the use of pragmalinguistic resources that structure conflict communication in English and Uzbek. English conflict discourse is characterized by a relatively frequent use of evaluative units and contrastive markers, as well as a predominance of explicit argumentation and confrontational strategies. In Uzbek, by contrast, mitigation devices, markers of respect, compromise, reconciliation, and face-saving strategies are used more actively. Based on the findings, a functional-pragmatic model of conflict discourse in English and Uzbek was developed.
