Occasional collocations are regarded as unconventional word combinations created by an author within a specific context. Their formation through metaphor, metonymy, epithet, and oxymoron is illustrated with original examples. The article analyzes such collocations as glass-cold morning, paper-thin courage, honeyed cruelty, clock-heavy silence, and velvet-dark fear, highlighting their role in creating imagery, semantic density, and emotional impact. The findings demonstrate that occasional collocations perform emotive-expressive, periphrastic, amplificative, and contrastive functions. Such units play an important role in expressing an author’s individual style, activating readers’ perception, and enhancing the aesthetic impact of literary texts. date: 2026-01-01 date_type: published id_number: OJS:2291 full_text_status: public publication: Scientific and innovative research in the social and humanitarian sphere volume: 3 number: 8 pagerange: 213-217 refereed: 1 issn: 3060-5059 citation: Hamdamov, Haydar (2026) SYN STYLISTIC FEATURES AND FUNCTIONAL POTENTIAL OF OCCASIONAL COLLOCATIONS IN ENGLISH LITERARY TEXTS.
