The study aims to determine the role of epistemic modality and evidentiality markers in presenting information as fact, assumption, probability, or inference, as well as to identify the degree of journalistic distance from the information source. The research material consists of typical contexts selected from news texts published in 2026 by Reuters, Gazeta.uz, and Kun.uz. Using comparative, contextual-semantic, and pragmatic methods of analysis, such units as may, might, could, reportedly, apparently, and must are functionally compared with the Uzbek forms mumkin, ehtimol, aytilishicha, xabar qilinishicha, ko‘rinishicha, and shubhasiz. The findings demonstrate that English modal verbs and adverbs encode degrees of epistemic certainty in a compact form, whereas Uzbek more actively employs analytical constructions, impersonal predicative forms, and reporting verbs. The study establishes that the most effective model of credibility construction emerges through the interaction of a modal marker, explicit source attribution, and supporting evidence. It also demonstrates that preserving modal force in translation is essential for maintaining the pragmatic status of the news report.</mods:abstract><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8601">2026-01-01</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Article</mods:genre></mets:xmlData></mets:mdWrap></mets:dmdSec><mets:amdSec ID="TMD_eprint_2131"><mets:rightsMD ID="rights_eprint_2131_mods"><mets:mdWrap MDTYPE="MODS"><mets:xmlData><mods:useAndReproduction>
