"The article analyzes the lexical-stylistic and communicative means used to construct a character’s speech portrait in Gafur Gulom’s prose. The study aims to identify the functions of linguistic units employed in characters’ speech in revealing their emotional, social, and communicative characteristics. The research material consists of direct speech and dialogue excerpts from Shum Bola, Yodgor, and Netay. The material is examined using descriptive, contextual, linguostylistic, speech-situation, and communication analysis methods. The findings show that emotive-evaluative vocabulary, forms of endearment and respect, forms of address, expressions of insult and curse, colloquial lexical means, speech acts, implicit information, and ironic subtext perform interconnected functions in constructing a character’s speech portrait.
