However, in contexts where different cultural environments intersect, such a definition does not fully capture the actual social functioning of law. This article analyzes law as an intercultural phenomenon and examines the relationship between legal norms, cultural meanings, local social practices, and universal legal values. The concepts of legal pluralism, legal transplants, “legal irritants,” the localization of rights, and cultural translation are comparatively analyzed. Rather than treating the opposition between universalism and cultural relativism as an absolute contradiction, the article argues that, while human dignity and fundamental rights should be preserved as a non-derogable normative minimum, their social expression may be shaped through cultural dialogue. As a result, a contextual-dialogical model is proposed to explain the intercultural functioning of law. The model integrates the stages of a normative core, cultural context, legal translation, a rights filter, and dialogical verification. Using the legal context of Uzbekistan as an example, the article demonstrates possibilities for interpreting the relationship among state law, international standards, and historical-cultural experience.</mods:abstract><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8601">2026-01-01</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Article</mods:genre></mets:xmlData></mets:mdWrap></mets:dmdSec><mets:amdSec ID="TMD_eprint_2382"><mets:rightsMD ID="rights_eprint_2382_mods"><mets:mdWrap MDTYPE="MODS"><mets:xmlData><mods:useAndReproduction>
