It examines views on the role of Turkestan women in society as reflected in the colonial-period press, their legal status within the framework of Sharia and local customs, traditional forms of girls’ education, the activities of otinoyi and bibiotin, and the development of new-method schools. Particular attention is paid to the views of Jadid intellectuals aimed at improving women’s literacy and involving them in education and enlightenment. The article also analyzes the activities of such prominent women educators as Dilshod Barno and Anbar Otin in girls’ education and the literary and cultural environment. The study demonstrates that the participation of Turkestan women in social and cultural life was not solely a product of the reforms of the early twentieth century but had historical foundations associated with traditional women’s education, family upbringing, and the local educational environment. date: 2026-01-01 date_type: published id_number: OJS:2589 full_text_status: none publication: Scientific and innovative research in the social and humanitarian sphere volume: 3 number: 9 pagerange: 267-272 refereed: 1 issn: 3060-5059 citation: Maxmudova, Risqiniso (2026) THE ROLE OF TURKESTAN WOMEN IN SOCIAL AND CULTURAL LIFE IN THE LATE NINETEENTH AND EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURIES.
