K. Young’s ACE model, M. Griffiths’s components model, R. Davis’s cognitive-behavioral model of generalized and specific pathological Internet use, as well as the phenomena of hyperpersonal communication, immersion, dissociation, and disinhibition, are examined in an interconnected framework. Loss of control, functional impairment, and the continuation of behavior despite negative consequences are identified as the primary criteria for distinguishing problematic Internet use from ordinary high levels of Internet activity. A differentiated model of psychological prevention is proposed for higher education institutions.</mods:abstract><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8601">2026-01-01</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Article</mods:genre></mets:xmlData></mets:mdWrap></mets:dmdSec><mets:amdSec ID="TMD_eprint_2446"><mets:rightsMD ID="rights_eprint_2446_mods"><mets:mdWrap MDTYPE="MODS"><mets:xmlData><mods:useAndReproduction>
